Science
‘’Scientists have become the bearers of the torch of discovery in our quest for knowledge.’’
- Stephen Hawking
Hello everyone!
My name is Miss Jermyn, I lead and LOVE science! Why? Because science is everywhere - it is so important in our everyday lives, develops technology, brings new discoveries and you get to take part in fun, hands on experiments! I also love interesting science facts. Did you know that the human foot has 26 bones? I’d love to hear any science facts you know – come and tell me!
Here at Rose Hill our children are scientists. As a core subject, science teaching and learning develops children’s scientific knowledge and skills, provides the foundations for understanding the world around them and encourages curiosity. Children learn through hands-on experiences in exciting and inspiring ways. They work scientifically, developing their understanding of the nature, process and methods of science throughout their time here.
In EYFS, children develop such skills as observation, prediction, critical thinking and discussion. They gain scientific knowledge which forms the foundations for them to build on.

Rose Hill have achieved the Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM).
We have three science ambassadors in each phase in the school. They applied for their role through telling the science lead, Miss Jermyn, why they love science and how they would be good in the role. They meet regularly to discuss learning within the school, take part in pupil surveys, help organise resources, help run science club, contribute to assemblies and promote science to all children throughout Rose Hill. We have lots of electrifying opportunities ahead! Read our new science blog find out more about what our science ambassadors have been busy doing.
